Official Sponsor: Miele

Miele is a German manufacturer of premium domestic appliances and machines for commercial applications. Founded in 1899, by Carl Miele and Reinhard Zinkann, Miele remains a family-owned and family-run company today. Since its inception, Miele has zealously pursued a philosophy of Immer Besser or “Forever Better”. It epitomises Miele’s unwavering and uncompromising commitment to quality and innovation, and is applied to every aspect of the company’s products and operations. This dedication to being forever better is reflected in the legendary quality and durability of our extensive range of products, which includes multi-functional ovens, steam ovens, hobs and cooker hoods, dishwashers, coffee makers, wine cellars, washing machines, tumble dryers, rotary ironers and vacuum cleaners.
This is why Miele continues to be a trusted, award-winning leader of the industry. In 2011, Miele received the highly coveted Best Brand award for the fifth year running from the GfK Group, Germany’s leading market research company. They were also presented with the Pegasus Award for highest consumer trust and confidence among domestic appliance manufacturers and awarded the ‘Trusted Brands Sustainability Prize’ in the Reader’s Digest European Trusted Brands 2011 study.
As the naming sponsor of The Miele Guide, Miele recognises and supports the publication’s role as a missionary for the top restaurants in Asia. Aligned with Miele’s conviction in Immer Besser is The Miele Guide’s objective of honouring members of the Asian restaurant industry who constantly strive to excel in the culinary arts, as well as nurturing those who aspire to dedicate themselves to the pursuit of this esteemed vocation. Thus, Miele is proud to continue its decade-long relationship with At-Sunrice, an institution that shares their commitment to gastronomic excellence and innovation. Just as At-Sunrice aims to groom young, global chefs attuned to the nuances of Asian and Western culinary techniques, Miele too believes in investing in the future of the region’s food and beverage industry, and thus continues to empower budding talents with opportunities to pursue their culinary aspirations through The Miele Guide Culinary Scholarship Programme.
Miele, too, were the proud sponsors of the Singapore team at the prestigious World Pastry Cup 2011 (Coupe du Monde de la Patisserie). Naturally, they were thrilled to extend this support, which allowed the team to showcase their talent, skills and creativity on a global stage.
The World Gourmet Summit (WGS), meanwhile, is an annual event in Singapore, where good food, wine and lifestyle converge, drawing a constellation of stellar international chefs and food personalities to the city. In line with Miele’s efforts to promote culinary enjoyment, they continued their affiliation with this celebrated event as WGS’ Official Home Kitchen Appliances partner for the eighth consecutive year. Helped along by Miele’s latest collection of appliances, several chef luminaries held a series of Up Close and Personal culinary workshops to share their knowledge and expertise with eager participants.
And as Miele’s principal focus and concern has been and always will be people, The Miele Guide also seeks to help not just a deserving few, but the greater number of hungry poor in Asia as well. In 2009, The Miele Guide Restaurant Month programme brought together 57 restaurants, a majority of which were featured in the first edition of The Miele Guide that was launched last year. They created special menus that ran for the month of August, and 15 per cent of the revenue derived from these menus will be donated to the United Nations World Food Programme in Timor-Leste. Even during a time when so many companies are making drastic adjustments to meet tougher challenges, Miele has not stopped championing the joys of good food among the people of this diverse region. Over the years, Miele has continually encouraged the publication of outstanding food and wine titles, such as Heritage Feast, an assembly of 59 treasured family recipes from 30 personalities in Singapore in commemoration of our 111th anniversary in 2010. Moreover, as testament to Miele’s commitment to future generations, 100% of the proceeds from sales of this book will be donated to Kidz Horizon, a charity organisation that raises funds for children suffering from HIV and other chronic illnesses, through the KK Women and Children’s Hospital Health Endowment Fund.
This marks the fourth consecutive year that Miele is lending its full support to The Miele Guide as its naming sponsor. Once again, they are delighted to be associated with a publication that celebrates the best dining experiences in this vibrant region by recognising and honouring the passionate people behind the outstanding restaurants mentioned within these pages. Miele hopes that the presence of a guide like this will continue to encourage Asia’s dining establishments to create yet more exceptional dining experiences, which in turn echo the spirit of Immer Besser.
Above all, Miele is proud to be taking a pro-active stance in shaping the regional dining scene, standing shoulder to-shoulder with the chefs, restaurateurs, industry professionals and the dining public in our collective crusade to propel Asia into the global dining arena on our own terms.
Miele, as the main sponsor of this guide, does not exert any influence over the selection and judging process that determines which restaurants appear in the guide.
