If you travel a lot, you may have found it difficult to stick with a routine, let alone a fitness routine. Between plane rides, car rides, meetings, get-togethers, and all the new things to see, it’s tough to keep up with anything you were doing before you left home.
Although at times it may seem impossible when you’re always on the run, below are some tips that can help you to stay fit while traveling for work, leisure, and anything in between.
1. Choose your Hotel Wisely
If you can choose your hotel for travel, use that to your advantage. Choose a hotel that has a gym or fitness center available for you to use during your stay or investigate nearby gyms with day passes near your destination. You can then book a hotel nearby and utilize those facilities during your time in a new area.
If you travel frequently to the same city for work or pleasure, some gyms offer memberships that include access to other locations in different cities and states.
These are typically larger gyms or fitness centers, such as the YMCA, Planet Fitness, 24-Hour Fitness, and Anytime Fitness.
If you are visiting family or friends, see if their gym offers a buddy pass for you to accompany them and squeeze in your workouts while getting in quality time as well.
2. Make a Plan
Having a plan is key to being consistent with your exercise routine even when your other routines have been temporarily tossed out the window.
Plan what days you will work out and what you will do while you are traveling. If you know you will have downtime in the mornings or the evenings, take this time to sneak that workout in.

Try to get your plan close to what your normal routine is at home. It likely won’t be the same and that’s okay but as long as you continue to keep up with your movement it will be easy to transition once you get back home.
Avoid planning workouts on days you know you will be very busy with work or leisure activities as it can be harder to stick to your plan on these days. If you are visiting family and friends, you can even get them involved by inviting them along for a workout session, trying out a class, or going for a hike or bike ride in the area.
3. Explore on a Run
If you are visiting a new destination, you can take your exercise on the go and squeeze in some sightseeing while you’re at it. Whether you enjoy going for a run, walking, hiking, biking, or more, take it outside and get to know the area.
If you are traveling with family, friends, or co-workers, see if you can convince them to come along with you. Not only will this help you release some stress from the travel itself, but you will get to see more while keeping on track with your fitness goals.
4. Don’t Forget Your Supplements
